Load Pins

Strain gauged load pins can easily replace an existing clevis, pivot pin or solid shaft in machinery or equipment to measure the load at that point. Rather than adding a separate weighing component, the load pin takes the place of a pin that is often already doing structural work, turning an existing pivot point into a built-in force sensor.

Specification

All our load pins are custom manufactured to your requirements, from special grades of stainless steel that are hardened to produce the best compromise between metrological and strength requirements. Because each pin is built to order, dimensions, load rating and electrical output can all be matched to the specific clevis, pivot pin or shaft it is replacing, rather than forcing the surrounding machinery to be adapted to a standard sensor size. The hardened stainless steel construction is chosen to withstand the same structural loads and wear as the component it replaces, while still incorporating the strain gauges needed for accurate force measurement.

Capacity & Application

Load pins are used in many diverse applications, including cranes, winches, agricultural equipment such as tractors, fishing, marine, offshore, subsea, aerospace, process industries, mining, hoisting gear, elevators and floor conveyors, cable laying machinery and many others. The load information provided by the pin can be used for process control, weight and force measurement, overload protection and safety related aspects, meaning a single load pin can support both operational monitoring and safety systems at the same time. Because they are custom manufactured, load pins can be specified for a wide range of capacities and physical sizes to suit each specific application.

Phoenix Scales is a UKAS ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory and an ISO 9001:2015 and Cyber Essentials certified company. We supply, install and calibrate load pins with UKAS-traceable certification, and our engineers provide ongoing servicing, repair and re-calibration support to keep each pin performing accurately and safely throughout its working life.
